Our approach

We hand over a capability, not a course.

You end up with a licensed programme, confident internal facilitators, and a way of working that keeps evolving with your organisation.

Reflective tools, not modules

Our programmes are built around the Small & Simple Steps communication framework, including our PREPARE framework for navigating challenging conversations. It is tempting to describe these as training modules. They are not.

PREPARE is a reflective tool. It is something a team thinks with, not something they are taken through once and then tested on.

The same is true of our scenario-based learning. We build the scenarios from real life, in the language and settings your people actually work in, because reflection is what helps people make better decisions — and reflection needs something real to work on.

Nothing here is off the shelf. A housing team and a palliative care team need the same underlying framework and completely different scenarios, and we develop them accordingly.

Seeking to understand

Before we can be understood, we must seek to understand. This experience focuses on recognising stress and emotion in others without judgement, allowing intense conversations to stay safe, calm, and on track.

From conflict to collaboration

Once understanding is established, teams can move past defensive reactions. This experience equips people to listen well, explore different perspectives, and think clearly together when under pressure.

The two experiences are sequential by design. Understanding has to come first, because without it collaboration is just a more polite form of defending your position.

How train-the-trainer and licensing works

We believe lasting change comes through internal capability rather than repeated external training. So rather than returning every year to deliver the same course, we license the programme to your organisation and build the people who will deliver it.

  1. We start with a conversation

Before anything is designed, we need to understand the pressures your teams actually face, the conversations that go wrong, and what a good outcome would look like for you.

  2. Your key people experience the programme

Facilitators cannot hold a room through material they have only read about. Your selected team members go through the core programme themselves first, with scenarios developed for your setting.

  3. We develop your internal facilitators

We support your selected internal leaders to master our practical adult education approach — how to hold psychological safety, how to run scenario-based learning, and how to stay a facilitator rather than becoming a lecturer.

  4. You take delivery in-house under licence

Your facilitators roll the programme out to your wider teams, using licensed materials that belong in your organisation’s everyday practice rather than in an external supplier’s calendar.

  5. The licence renews, and the work evolves

Organisations usually begin with an initial licence period, but our licences are designed to be renewed and extended. New scenarios are developed as real-world situations change, and your facilitators keep growing with continued support from us.

A supported, evaluated journey

We believe that measuring impact is just as important as delivering education. When you license our framework, we walk with your organisation to evaluate the real impact of the learning using recognised educational evaluation methods, including the Kirkpatrick Model.

This is an educational responsibility rather than a clinical audit. We are not inspecting your teams — we are checking, honestly and together, whether the learning is doing what it was meant to do.

  • Phase 1 — Experiential learning

We look closely at initial engagement and how comfortably your key team members absorb the principles, ensuring absolute clarity from day one.

  • Phase 2 — Facilitator development

We evaluate how confidently your internal facilitators hold psychological safety and guide scenario-based learning for your wider teams.

  • Phase 3 — Continuous evaluation

As the programme rolls out internally, we evaluate how these new communication behaviours are used in everyday practice, capturing the long-term cultural shifts as your licence extends over time.

A partnership, not a purchase.

If you would like to explore how to build this lasting internal capability within your organisation, let’s talk things through.
